OUR HISTORY
Kapp Companies began as "Kapp Excavating & Sons" in the late 70's, started by Gary Kapp. With the help of his parents Jake and Klea he was able to bring his dream to life. Beginning as a Landscaping & Excavation Business, Gary's first office was a trailer in his parent's backyard.
In 1986 " Kapp Excavating & Sons" was incorporated as "Kapp Construction & Development Co., Inc."
Once incorporated in 1986, Gary hired his long time friend Roger Mills.
With Roger by his side, Gary was able to expand his business. Roger playing the role of Project Manager, convinced Gary that they should get into underground utilities. This included installing sewer & water for new subdivisions, civil repairs or projects, and many other adventures along the way.
Over the years and as the company grew, Roger trained many who came through the door. Many of our veteran foremen received their knowledge from Roger.
With over 57 years experience in underground utility construction, we are grateful to have had his wisdom along the way.
Jacob spent much time with his father and grandfather in helping them with the business. He spent much time in the field gaining the knowledge of underground utility construction. Since graduating high school, Jacob has used his extensive field experience to become a very effective Estimator & Company President.
Jacob attended Weber State University, and the Construction Estimating Institute of America. He is also very involved with the Associated Builders & Contractors Utah Chapter, serving as Chair for the 2023 year.
In 1993 Colton Tanner was hired on as a Laborer/Pipe-layer. It was from here a lifelong friendship between Colton & Jacob was born. He later advanced to the position of Foreman, and onto becoming Project Manager. He is skilled in estimating as well and his knowledge of underground utility construction is immense, and is an asset to our company.
In 2003 Gary's son Ricky Yorgason joined the company. After leaving to pursue other business ventures, Ricky returned in 2010. Upon returning Ricky managed Kapp U-cart Concrete, then transferred into his role within the office, and later to Vice President.
Armed with the knowledge and skills needed, Kapp Construction flourished.
In 1995 Kapp Construction purchased property in what was then unincorporated Weber County and developed "Kapp Industrial Park" which is the present location of the company office and Kapp U-cart Concrete.
In 2000 Gary & Jacob partnered with "U-cart of America" and opened "Kapp U-cart Concrete" offering short load concrete and mixer trailer rentals.
They also opened "Kapp Storage" which some years later was sold.
In 2001 Kapp Construction purchased land in Malad Idaho. Over the years as Malad has grown, so has the need for aggregate materials locally. In 2019 the action was taken by Gary's son Ricky to register the land as an Operating Surface Mine and C&D Landfill under "Malad Rock Products".
